Follow this official guide to initialize your Ledger device, secure your recovery phrase, install Ledger Live, and start managing your crypto safely.

Unbox & inspect

Ensure packaging is intact and tamper-evident seals are present. If anything looks altered, do not proceed — contact official support.

Download Ledger Live

Download the official Ledger Live app from ledger.com/start. Verify the URL and certificate; avoid third-party mirrors.

Connect device & install firmware

Use the supplied USB cable to connect your Ledger. Install firmware only when prompted by Ledger Live and confirm authenticity on the device screen.

Create PIN & write recovery phrase

Set a PIN on the device and write down your recovery phrase on the provided card. Never store the phrase digitally or share it with anyone.

Install apps & manage assets

Install coin apps through Ledger Live, add accounts, and verify receiving addresses on the device before accepting funds.

Security tips

  • Never disclose your recovery phrase. Ledger support will never ask for it.
  • Buy devices only from ledger.com or authorized resellers.
  • Keep firmware and Ledger Live updated for security patches.
  • Consider a passphrase (advanced) for added account separation.
